Houston, Texas, the new home of Mrs. Hoa, a middle-aged Vietnamese woman who recently moved to America to live with her only daughter, Ha. A feisty woman back in Vietnam, Mrs. Hoa is struggling to fit in with Ha who has worked hard to establish herself in the States and struggles to make time for her mother. Things come to a head when lonely Mrs. Hoa is preparing for her late husband's death anniversary and bumps into a handsome younger man at a local Asian supermarket.
